Copyright and DMCA

Storyfold respects the rights of authors and illustrators, and we expect the families who use our studio to do the same. Our Acceptable Use Policy does not allow copyrighted or trademarked characters, stories or brands, and our studio blocks the well-known ones. If something slipped through, here is how to tell us.

Takedown notice

If you believe content on Storyfold infringes your copyright, send a notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. 512) to our designated agent with all of the following:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature, or that of someone authorized to act for you.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work you say is infringed (or a representative list if there are many).
  3. The URL or other location of the material on Storyfold, with enough detail for us to find it.
  4. Your name, mailing address, phone number and email.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act for the owner.

We act on valid notices quickly: we remove or disable access to the material, notify the account that posted it, and keep a record. Knowingly sending a false notice can make you liable for damages (17 U.S.C. 512(f)).

Counter-notice

If your content was removed and you believe it was a mistake or misidentification, send a counter-notice to the same agent with: your signature; identification of the removed material and where it appeared; a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief it was removed by mistake or misidentification; your name, address and phone number; and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your district (or, if outside the US, any district where Storyfold may be found) and that you will accept service from the person who sent the original notice. We forward the counter-notice to that person; if they do not tell us within 10 to 14 business days that they have filed a court action, we may restore the material.

Repeat infringers

We close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe, and we may do so after a single clear case.
